Wahdah 1997
Inspired from biology of plant, detailed drawings of floem
and xilem which corresponds toward the vitality of a plant.
These elements are metaphors of the sculpture where it representing
the people of Malaysia as the force behind the strength of
the nation. The form is then realized through the amalgamation
of 14 crescents designed in such a way to form a symbol of
unity - a circle. This formation is enhanced by the keris
(malay dagger) shaped cylinders.
The cylinders (40 of them) mark Malaysia's 40th independence
anniversary and also a symbol of Malaysian's strength in partaking
the challenge of vision 2020. The sculpture stood tall and
proud supported by a boulder made of granite. This boulder
is embedded to a translucent base made of resin. This sculpture
is also a symbol of Malaysia in emulating herself in becoming
one of the industrial giants of the world. The introduction
of resin and fibre optics strengthen the conviction of launching
the sculpture as the full-fleshed industrial monument for
the millennium and signifying to the world that we are ready
for anything.
